Another year has come and gone but what a farewell 45 revellers (11 non members) accorded this special occasion at Foothold. Many campers arrived on Friday with a steady flow coming in over the next two days with Hikers Haven being fully booked. It was hot, but this did not deter the keenest of hikers in making their way to the escarpment or Western Pools.
Sundowners at Millennium Koppie got the evening off on the right foot although at 17h30 the temperature was 38O but later in the evening everybody had a top or jacket on – such a contrast. There was a hive of activity around the braai area before everyone’s appetite was satisfied – then the party began in earnest. A very good variety of music was played which meant old and young could get up and swing their hips. Around 02h00 peace was restored!! Some bleary eyed faces greeted each other on the morning of the first day of 2018. A tasty communal breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes – all mainly cooked by the men, with those who joined in the fun but didn’t provide anything, doing the dishes. On an extremely positive note, all those that enjoyed the bird walk, commented on how good the veldt is looking as compared with the last couple of years. This is due to the good rainfalls but mainly to the abstaining of cattle on the property. Thanks to everybody who assisted, in whatever form, around Hikers Haven and Foothold but special thanks must go to the guys who cut the grass, especially considering how hot it was. The DJ needs to be praised as well – thank you. Look forward to seeing such a good turn out for the next New Year celebrations at Foothold – time goes quickly so don’t blink!!!!
